Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get work done 2 times as fast? Maybe 3 times as fast?
Maybe you’ve got a lot on your plate that you want to be able to plow through.
Or maybe you want to be able to get your work done twice as fast so you can do other things with your life.
In this post I’m going to teach you a game changing productivity tool.
This isn’t an app, or a way to arrange your calendar.
This is a way to manage your brain, and it’s going to change everything if you apply it.
When I was in the early days of my business, I created my first landing page. Hundreds of people saw it because I sent ad traffic to this landing page.
It was scary to put it out into the world, but I just plowed through.
A few weeks later, I noticed some notifications in facebook from my ads.
A couple kind people were letting me know that I didn’t fully update the template. It still had some latin text in it that I hadn’t updated.
I felt so ashamed and embarrassed.
I made it mean that I wasn’t cut out to be a business owner. Who did I think I was anyway?
I thought people were judging me and I was making a fool of myself.
The next time I had to create a landing page I put it off.
I procrastinated.
I avoided it.
I did busy work.
The page didn’t get built… Until I applied this:
First of all, you have to recognize and acknowledge the thoughts going through your head that aren’t particularly helpful.
For me the thought was, “I’m just making a fool of myself.”
Write down all your thoughts about it so your brain will stop thinking it.
If you don’t acknowledge the thoughts, they will just keep coming back.
Have you ever been around a toddler who wants your attention? Does it work to just ignore the kid? No. Thoughts are the same way. They want to be acknowledged, and then after they feel heard they will be on their merry way.
After you’ve written down the thought that isn’t helping you, your job is to move on.
Your thoughts cause your feelings, and your feelings cause your actions.
If you feel happy you’re going to take different action than if you’re disappointed.
Determine what feeling would be useful for you to take the action you need to take.
Find a thought to back up that feeling.
So in my past example, the thing that finally got me to make the new landing page was, “There’s nothing scary about dragging and dropping things onto a webpage.”
I got down to the nitty gritty. “Building this webpage doesn’t equate to making a fool of myself.”
I found a new thought that would evoke more useful feelings for myself.
So, the next time you find yourself procrastinating.
Pull out a sheet of paper.
Do a brain dump. Find out what thoughts are in there holding you back.
Don’t judge, don’t edit, just get it all out.
Recognize that the only thing holding you back is your thoughts.
That’s it.
It’s so powerful to realize this.
You’re in complete control.
Determine what feeling would be particularly helpful to get your work done.
Pick a new thought to feel that feeling – it has to be believable to you.
Repeat that thought.
“There’s nothing scary about dragging and dropping things onto a webpage.”
Remove all the drama and get work done.
It’s so much faster, and so much more enjoyable.
